The young Achilles disguises himself as a girl to escape the war and mingles with Princess Deidamia’s ladies-in-waiting. It is a story full of mix-ups, humour, and emotion, but also one that asks what courage, friendship, and love truly mean. All of this makes Deidamia a wonderful opera for our family adaptation: playful, witty, touching – and filled with music that speaks straight to the heart.

Juri Tetzlaff, well known from KiKA, gets to the essence of this Festival Opera in just one hour. He introduces the key characters and the most beautiful arias and takes a look behind the scenes of Baroque opera: Why do so many men sing in high voices? Why are the texts in Italian? For Juri Tetzlaff, the best moment is this: “When, after the performance, children come to me with their parents or grandparents and say with a smile: We finally understood the opera – and we had fun too!”
